VDP Week 2, Session 2: Criminal Minds - Exploring True Crime Through Research, Media, and Nonfiction

This exciting class will dive into the world of infamous criminals and true crime stories, capturing students’ imaginations while developing key nonfiction reading and writing skills. Through high-interest units like The Infamous Criminals project, students will research famous criminals like gangsters, pirates, and fraudsters, then present their findings in creative formats. The class will also explore media bias and tone in coverage of notorious cases such as Jack the Ripper and Lizzie Borden, analyzing how the media shapes public perception. Students will investigate the truth behind these cases, write closing argument speeches, and participate in debates. This class combines research, media literacy, and creative projects to engage students with true crime in a thought-provoking way!
